The NFL is still the most popular sport in America, and London has been a key market for the league. Now, with two new teams set to join the league, it’s time to take a look at what will happen next.
The trevor lawrence nft is a chapter in the NFL’s history. Trevor Lawrence, who was the number-one overall pick in the 2019 draft and led Clemson to their first National Championship, headlined a new chapter in London.
LONDON, United Kingdom — Jamie Phillips was adamant about canceling the idea. At 3.45 a.m. on Friday, with the Jacksonville Jaguars set to arrive in London a few hours later, Phillips texted his buddy Lee White, stating it would be stupid for them to go the three hours to London in the hopes of seeing their favorite team’s prodigy quarterback arrive for the first time.
They’d been talking about the vacation for two years and had become used to waiting. The Jaguars hadn’t won a game in over a year, and they hadn’t been able to watch the team play in London in over two years due to the coronavirus epidemic that canceled last year’s series. They had to wait months to witness Trevor Lawrence, their team’s saviour, in action. But now he was here: Lawrence was making his international debut, and it was against Tua Tagovailoa, a fellow rising star. In a league with few competitive clubs, the International Series drew the attention of the league’s future stars.
This past weekend in London, four top-five draft choices from the previous two years shined. The NFL unveiled some of the players tasked with delivering on the promise as it embarks on a new chapter abroad, with obligatory foreign games and the possibility of a game in Germany next year. These last two weeks have been more of a fresh start than a comeback. Rarely before has a London game offered the future instead of hyping up current stars. Lawrence and Zach Wilson, this year’s first and second overall selections, as well as second-year Tagovailoa and explosive rookie pass catchers Kyle Pitts and Jaylen Waddle, starred in these games.
Phillips and White, on the other hand, had set their eyes on Lawrence and resolved not to miss the opportunity to greet him upon his long-awaited arrival.
They met online two years ago in a Jaguars collectibles group, and during lockdown, they each started their own Jaguars podcasts targeted at other U.K. fans. They planned to meet for the first time in person at London Heathrow Airport. Phillips had an issue with the idea since it sounded a bit absurd. Using a flight scanner program, they deduced that the sole direct aircraft from Jacksonville to Heathrow on Friday morning had to be the Jaguars; however, the team declined to say when they would arrive for fear of a welcome throng forming among the epidemic. Phillips, a pet shop manager, traveled from Northampton, and White, a former IT support specialist, drove from Cardiff, Wales, to carry out the plan.
They arrived at the arrivals gate just after 6.30 a.m., where a single NFL official and a few of security officers awaited them instead of the usual television cameras, throngs of fans, and professional autograph seekers. Lawrence, dressed in a light pink sweatshirt, arrived after most of the rest of the squad had gone through. The quarterback, who was allegedly just leaving the United States for the second time in his life, astonished any British admirers who would go to such efforts to see him and his team by coming over to meet them.
Lawrence said that he was weary from the trip but was looking forward to making his mark in London. Executives in the league’s international department would have hoped he accomplished this.

The NFL seems to be on the verge of breaking into the foreign market, and the future stars who have put on a display over the last two weeks are critical to its strategy. The NFL’s London office had little influence in which teams participated in the United Kingdom — a big part of the process is scheduling — but it was clear to Brett Gosper, the league’s new director of Europe, that this series would be groundbreaking. “We were hoping for the drawings, the matches, and the players,” Gosper said before of the Series.
The strategy worked as well.
The key moments of the young players’ lives were seen almost entirely by European fans these past two weekends — fewer Americans than usual made the journey over. Pitts, the highest-drafted tight end in league history, stole the show in the opener on Oct. 10, when the Atlanta Falcons crushed the New York Jets 27-20. Pitts scored 119 receiving yards on nine catches, the pick of which was a spectacular one-handed catch in the second quarter. On the other hand, Jets QB Wilson tried his hardest late in the game to bring his club even, but it was not to be. It did, however, set the scene for a larger matchup: Lawrence and Tagovailoa facing battle for the first time since the College Football Playoff National Championship in January 2019.
White was on the third layer, just over the end zone. Phillips was stationed in the press box, with one of the finest seats in the house because to the podcast he began while under lockdown.
Tagovailoa struck first, as Waddle had a breakthrough day of his own, scoring a touchdown on the first drive. Lawrence put on a show of his own, throwing precise passes downfield, only to have the squad miss several key passes. The Jaguars, though, managed to claw their way back into the game with an unlikely comeback after a dreadful start. Lawrence was at the center of it all, throwing a 28-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Jones in the corner of the end zone before halftime, and then setting up his team’s second scoring drive with a 29-yard pass to wideout Jamal Agnew in the third quarter.
