The nfl offseason moves 2021 is a story that has been making the rounds. Patriots wide receiver, Golden Tate, has been linked to free-agent WR, Devin Funchess.

The New England Patriots recently brought in an undrafted free-agent wide receiver for a tryout, indicating that they aren’t quite set at the position.

Meanwhile, on the free-agent market, a few notable senior alternatives are still available. The Patriots have been suggested a former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl winner.

Golden Tate Should Be Signed by the Patriots

The Patriots need depth and playmakers at receiver, according to Bleacher Report’s Jake Frill, and he likes the match for former New York Giants and Detroit Lions receiver Golden Tate.

Frill stated:

Agholor will be the Patriots’ leading wide receiver going into the 2021 season. New England will be in excellent condition if he improves on his great year in 2020. What if the 28-year-old isn’t able to replicate that level of output? The Pats’ receiving corps is thin on the ground, and N’Keal Harry may be moved or cut before Week 1. That is why the Patriots should explore signing a receiver like Golden Tate, who is still one of the finest unsigned playmakers available. Tate will be 33 years old next week, and he didn’t have a fantastic year in 2020. He recorded 35 catches for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games with the New York Giants, his lowest total since 2011. However, if he joins an offense where he isn’t the first or even second option in the passing game, he may still have some gas left in the tank. The Notre Dame graduate may not be a big signing, but he may offer important depth and consistency. If Cam Newton starts as quarterback, he’ll certainly benefit from having as many weapons as possible as he tries to rebound from a disappointing season. If Mac Jones starts, Tate’s experience as a playmaker may help the rookie. Plus, Tate isn’t likely to be expensive. As a result, the 11-year veteran may find a home in New England.

Tate is on the verge of turning 30, and he’s coming off one of his least productive years. Tate only appeared in 12 games in 2020, with 35 catches for 388 yards and two touchdowns.

The Patriots are unlikely to expect Tate to take over as their No. 1 receiver, but his expertise may be beneficial to young guys like Gunner Olszewski, Isaiah Zuber, and youngster Tre Nixon if he makes the squad.

Is There a Better Alternative to Tate?

To be honest, the answer is yes, and some of them are very certainly already on the Patriots’ roster. In practice, OTAs, minicamp, and during his limited outings in 2020, Zuber has showed some sparks.

He has excellent speed and may be a big-play receiver in the future. The Patriots may have two speed receivers capable of knocking the top off a defense, in addition to Nixon. Because the Patriots are expected to be a good rushing team in 2021, that extra burst of speed may be critical to the offense’s overall balance.

Both of the young receivers have a considerably greater potential than Tate and are already in the building.
